Budgeting for a Fijian Paradise
We are lucky to live in a place where we have access to many beautiful beaches and islands a flight away, including the Fiji where happiness finds you.

🗺️ The Basics
Fiji is made of over 300 islands located in the South Pacific with some awe-inspiring mountains. The two biggest islands are Viti Levu, where Nadi International Airport is located, and Vanua Levu.
Fiji is an all year round country to visit, though visitor numbers peak in July and slow down from the months of December to March. For the most value, come in October to early November where there is lower rainfall, lower humidity, and milder temperatures.
💲 Currency
You’ll need Fijian dollars which are approximately 1 FJD = 0.64 SGD.
While credit cards are accepted at hotels and major establishments, cash is the way to go for transactions elsewhere. Also, credit card usage sometimes incurs a surcharge, so be sure to ask the retailer.
🚗 Getting there and getting around
Once arriving in Nadi International Airport, if you’re headed to one of the many other surrounding islands like Yasawa or Taveuni you would continue your journey with a short domestic flight, (approximately 30 - 65 minutes ) costing approximately S$290 for a round trip.
Taxis are affordable, averaging around S$3 per trip. But if you have a car or motorbike license, it would be fun to self-explore at ease with a rented car (S$90 for a basic sedan from Avis) or scooter (S$22 upwards).
🏨 Where to stay
Fiji has no lack of options from budget, midrange to luxe. Because there are so many islands, the most convenient would be to stay on the 2 big islands where you still have access to a beautiful beach and town facilities within reach. Seekers of solitude will find paradise in the villages of Yasawa Islands – no urbanized towns in the area make for a respite with the best of nature. For those looking to experience Fijian social life in its full glory, check-in to the adults-only Tokoriki Island Resort in the Mamanuca Islands.
Ultimate pampering holiday at 5-star resorts such as the Hilton costs S$386/night onwards or even the Marriott at S$444/night on CheapTickets.sg.
For those who’d rather not drop a fortune, there are many 3-star options that are highly rated and wonderfully cosy (rating of 9/10 and up) for just S$100/night such as Gecko Lodge Fiji.
🍴 Filling your tummy
Fiji boasts a wide mix of good international cuisine from Japanese, Italian, Australian, Chinese just to name a few. It’s also common to find Indian inspired curries and rotis as 40% of the population are of Indian origins.
For mid-range food, S$50 could get you through two meals. Beers cost around S$2.50, and local Fijian restaurants have meals below S$20 whereas S$35 would already get you a main meal at a 3 to 4-star hotel.
Try the fresh seafood in your meals. At around S$100, a platter of the ocean’s yummiest lobster, mussels and octopus could be swimming in your tummy.
🚢 Activities
The best thing to do is definitely to check out the beautiful marine life. Day cruises with lunch and snorkelling are S$165 upwards.
ATV quad bike tours are also popular with some tours going to hot springs and villages and it costs from S$200 per pax depending on the length of the tour.
Whenever you’re in a foreign country, it is always great to also take time to understand the local culture and people who are behind your holiday paradise. Enjoy a night culture tour for about S$105 where you’ll experience a local village tour with performance and eat traditional food buried in a Lovo (buried underground in heat to cook).
All in all, Fiji is definitely a paradise you shouldn’t miss. Get your tickets and hotels booked soon at www.cheaptickets.sg today!
