Other than the flights, another reason to go in June is the magnificent weather. May to October marks the dry season in Broome, where you will have nice warm days (approx 30°C) with clear blue skies and cool nights (approx 14°C). The perfect weather to enjoy the many activities Broome has to offer.
To start your planning, here are 6 Instagram-worthy reasons why a trip to Broome this June holidays is worth it.
1. Horizontal Waterfalls (Scenic Tours)
Dubbed by Sir David Attenborough as “Australia’s most unusual natural wonder”, the Horizontal Waterfalls is a must-see by seaplane or by sea from Broome. This natural phenomenon occurs when the strong tidal currents of Talbot Bay squeeze through the narrow gorges of the McLarty Range, making the bright turquoise waters look like a waterfall turned on its side. Make sure you hold on tight as you take a speedboat ride through the rapid torrents. Catching a natural wonder on your instagram feed, why not?
2. Dinosaur Tracks (Footprints)
Take a trip back in time as you explore the coastal flats around Broome renown for having the most diverse and abundant collection of dinosaur prints in the world. Stretching from Roebuck Bay to the Dampier Peninsula, these well-preserved tracks are 130 million years old. There are many locations to view these tracks along the Dinosaur Coast, Gantheaume Point being the most well-known but not the easiest as you will have to navigate slippery and sharp rock edges at extremely low tide. Some of the more accessible viewing points are Maralagun on Cable Beach, Gulbanwila near the Broome Bird Observatory and Yinara, Reddell Point and Reddell Beach South. A popular thing to do for instagrammers when in Broome, but they aren’t that easy to find, so be sure you go prepared with suitable footwear.
3. Unique Animal Experiences
There are many interesting animal encounters that you can experience in Broome—ranging from whale watching (July to October) to shorebirds tours. However, one iconic experience is taking that sunset camel tour at Cable Beach. There are also morning and pre-sunset camel tours available, but seeing that multi-coloured sunset on top of a camel is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience and not to mention, a gorgeous picture opportunity!
Note: Group bookings are required at least 48 hours before the tour begins. There is a weight limit of 90 kg per passenger.
4. Staircase to the Moon
Happening only 2 to 3 days a month from March to October, this natural phenomenon occurs when the full moon casts a unique reflection over the tidal flats of Roebuck Bay. On the first 2 days of the Staircase to the Moon, you can also visit the Staircase to the Moon markets at Town Beach where you can buy local produce and handmade products. With the low lighting at night, it isn’t that easy to take a good picture of this, but if you have what it takes, please wow us all on instagram!
Note: Be sure to check the forecasted dates before planning your trip down.
5. Red Sand and Blue Waters
Broome’s scenery is pretty iconic with its bright red sand and cliffs as well as its turquoise blue water. The redness comes from the quartz sandstone with an iron oxide content and makes it a distinct backdrop for breathtaking photos. Naturally, it’s no surprise that the reds and blues have made places like Gantheaume Point and Roebuck Bay popular among instagrammers and photographers.
6. Eco Pearl Tour
Learn more about modern cultured pearl farming on an eco tour complete with a scenic cruise over crystal clear waters viewing live oysters in their natural habitat. A popular activity among tourists, these eco pearl tours are known to be very relaxing and informative, and the surroundings of the pearl farm are also pretty stunning. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a dolphin sighting or two!
Note: Tours include morning or afternoon tea and selected tours have a pre-booked breakfast or lunch option available. Booking is required.
Even if you’re not that into instagram, there’s certainly plenty of wonderful things to discover in Broome. What are you waiting for? Be sure to check out CheapTickets.sg for travel deals including a $20 off instant discount for return flights from Singapore! Start booking your flights now!
