The Secret South Pacific Hideaway You can Get To
If you’re looking for an island or beach getaway that’s not going to break the bank, and away from hordes of crowds, how about hopping on a flight to Fiji? It’s just about 10 hours direct from Singapore twice a week. Better still! There’s currently a flight deal with additional discount.
Fiji is many things, and regardless of what type of traveller you are, there’s something fun in store just for you. We’ve come up with a list. Start planning now. Paradise awaits!
Cloud 9 (Special Mention)
This is Cloud 9, a floating pizzeria in the middle of the stunning blue Fiji waters. You can get there by boat, jetski or airplane. While waiting for your order to come up, feel free to snorkel around the bar in the Pacific Ocean! Or just kick back on deck with a cocktail in hand, and just take in the breathtaking views around you.
For Budding Explorers
Obscure coves, secret waterfalls, concealed caves! Beyond the more well-known Sawa-I-Lau Caves, where you have to take short dives to explore, Fiji has plenty of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Tavoro Waterfall in Taveuni Island is a series of three waterfalls, with the Upper Falls being the more difficult one to get to—about an hour’s hike. Also, try getting away from tourist crowds to Fiji’s least developed islands, either Kadavu or Savusavu, for unspoilt beauty.
Zip Lining
So you’ve tried swimming, hiking, quad biking… you name it! How about taking in the beautiful Fiji scenery from way up hanging on a wire? Zip through caves, canyons, mountaintops and over gorgeous ocean views at jaw-dropping speeds. Zip Fiji operates the largest zipline course in the South Pacific in Nadi featuring 16 giant ziplines above the canyon into Fiji’s largest cave. It also offers a shorter zipline course in Pacific Harbour.
Bookings must be made in advance and hotel pick ups are available.
Note: Try not to wear clothing that rides up, and wear shoes that can get wet.
Locations: Nadi | 35 minutes from downtown Nadi, Pacific Harbour | 25 minutes from Pacific Harbour’s Adventure Capital
Opening Hours: Daily
For Adrenaline Junkies
Are you a fan of high-octane, heart thumping activities? Then Fiji has quite a selection to offer. From skydiving to ziplining, quad biking to shark diving, you can exclaim your heart out (well not underwater of course!) amidst a gorgeous backdrop of nature on the islands.
For Beach Bums
If you long for nothing other than the sun, sand and sea, you’re in for a treat! It’s certainly no surprise that Fiji is a beach destination, but did you know that it has almost thousands of magnificent beaches dotted around the archipelago. Honeymoon Beach, Horseshoe Bay, Natadola Beach, Liku Beach, Seagrass Bay just to name a few of the more famous ones. We’re talking stretches of deep white sand and shallow lagoons ideal for a day of soaking up the sun.
For Young Children
Parents, rejoice! Many resorts in Fiji have Kids Clubs available, and they are free! Kids Clubs staff will keep your children busy with fun activities and push the younger ones around the resort in a stroller to get them to sleep! So you can rest and relax at the spa or by the pool having a peace of mind that your children are well taken care of. Also, there are plenty of kid-friendly activities around the islands that you can enjoy as a family, such as visiting the wildlife unique to the region at Kula Eco Park, visit the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, head down to a local village to learn about Fijian culture and history, or even take a Fijian Cuisine cooking class.
Note: There are minimum ages that children can attend Kids Clubs without a nanny. Check out the individual resort websites for information on this.
For Couples
There’s nothing like an island paradise getaway for couples to celebrate their honeymoon, anniversary, or just have a romantic getaway. There’s just so much for you to do, get your diving licence together, picnic on a catamaran sailboat, have a relaxing spa date, a nice candlelit dinner by the beach, or just watch the sunset together from any part of the already picturesque islands.
