Chinese New Year (late January early February)

There is a large Chinese community in Langkawi. This is an extremely important festival in traditional Chinese culture where families gather to celebrate. The festival lasts for around a month and include several days of public holiday. The Chinese New Year is celebrated on the first day of the new lunar cycle and marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

Langkawi International Water Festival (March)

This is a time of festivities that feature competitions like sandcastle building, and kayak racing during the hottest time of the year.

National Day (August)

Celebrated on the 31st of August, this day celebrates the independence from Britain, with parades and shows throughout the island.

Deepavali (November)

In early November, the Hindu festival of lights is celebrated all over Malaysia with lanterns and fireworks marking the end of the monsoon season. If you are in Malaysia during this time of year, you can't miss this!
